A 15.6% decrease in the amount of consumption of “HCFCs” in Egypt in 2021


Today, Thursday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued a press statement on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer for 2022, which falls on the sixteenth of each year, the anniversary of the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, regarding substances that deplete the ozone layer, an international treaty aimed at Protecting the ozone layer by phasing out the production of some substances responsible for the erosion of the ozone layer.

So far, 190 countries have signed the Protocol. The celebration this year comes under the slogan & quot; 35 years since the signing of the Montreal Protocol: global cooperation to protect life on Earth.

Among the most important indicators, the consumption of ozone-depleting substances in Egypt (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) decreased from 4.5 thousand tons in (2020) to 3.8 thousand tons in (2021), with a decrease of 15.6%.

The amount of electric energy generated in Egypt from renewable energy sources (wind/solar energy) increased from 8.7 thousand gigawatt-hours, and Egypt ranked 21 out of 64 countries in the climate change performance index (CCPI(during 2022, an indicator that aims to assess the policies and programs adopted in different countries to confront climate change, issued by the German Environment and Development Organization Germanwatch)German What’s up?An updated version of it is submitted to the United Nations Climate Change Conference on an annual basis.
