Lionel Messi, the star of Paris Saint-Germain, surpassed his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, the star of Real Madrid, in the number of goals scored without penalty kicks.
This came when Messi scored the goal of Paris Saint-Germain’s victory over Lyon in the French league on Sunday evening, to pass Ronaldo in this number, although he played 145 fewer games.
Thus, Messi reached his 672th goal without penalty kicks, while Ronaldo scored 671 goals.
Ronaldo still has the most goals, with a total of 816 goals in 1,130 matches, while Messi scored 775 goals in 985 matches.
At club level, Ronaldo scored 699 goals in 941 matches in all competitions with 4 clubs: Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Ronaldo scored 50 or more goals for 6 consecutive seasons with Real Madrid between 2010-2011 and 2015-2016.
On the other hand, Messi scored 688 goals in 822 games with only two teams, Barcelona from the beginning of his career until the summer of 2021, and Paris Saint-Germain, who is currently playing with him.
Messi scored 30 goals or more for 13 consecutive seasons with Barcelona between 2008-2009 and 2020-2021.
This conflict was most intense when Ronaldo was at Real Madrid in conjunction with Messi’s presence at Barcelona, between 2009 and 2018.
Ronaldo left the Spanish league in the summer of 2018, heading to Juventus, and after 3 years, in the same year Messi left Barcelona, Madeira’s rocket returned to Manchester United again, for the first time since 2009.
