Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri cannot criticize the performance of his players and is not as anxious as his captain Leonard Bonucci.
Juventus lost 2-1 to Benfica in the second round of the Champions League.
For the first time, Juventus lost in the first two rounds of the Champions League group stage in its history.
“It is difficult to explain football, all I can say is that after being 2-1 down, the game is over, and we risked it becoming 3-1 or 4-1,” Allegri said on Sky Italia after the match.
“There was a chance to come back, but the performance was not going to improve, there is no point to explain or talk now, we just have to work hard.”
He continued, “I told the team that those moments happen in football, we have to unite as a team and take responsibility, we have an important match against Monza in the Italian league and after that we will think about Europe, it is currently complicated but we have not lost everything.”
And he added, “I cannot criticize the team for everything, I understand the psychological state of the team, we are going through some difficult moments, but receiving a goal in the last minute of the first half is a strong blow to our morale.”
He continued, “I have never lost two matches in the group stage of the Champions League, and this is the first time for me.”
