Colombian James Rodriguez, player of Qatar’s Al Rayyan, approached a move to Olympiacos of Greece in the summer transfer market.
And the Spanish newspaper “AS” reported that James had already arrived in Greece to undergo a medical examination at his new club.
James is expected to sign a season-long loan contract, having already agreed with Olympiacos management.
Olympiacos and Al Rayyan share James’ salary during the loan season.
The summer transfer market in Greece ends on Thursday, which opened the door for James to move this week.
James tried to leave Al Rayyan in the past weeks and offered himself to Valencia without the deal being done.
Thus, James approaches Friendship with Marcelo again after sharing Real Madrid’s dressing room for years.
The 31-year-old Colombian playmaker has not appeared in any matches with Al Rayyan in the Qatari league this season.
James has been in Al Rayyan since the beginning of last season, after he moved to him from Everton, for 8 million euros.
James had previously starred at Porto and Monaco, before moving to Real Madrid in 2014 for 75 million euros.
James played 125 games with Real Madrid, during which he scored 37 goals and assisted 42, and crowned him twice in the Champions League, and twice in the Spanish League.
James played on loan for two seasons to Bayern Munich between 2017 and 2019, scoring 15 goals in 67 games, in addition to his 20 assists, and winning the German League twice.
James did not play with Al Rayyan to 15 games during a whole year, during which he scored 5 goals and made 7.
Top scorer for the 2014 World Cup with Colombia, he played 86 matches, during which he scored 24 goals.
Olympiacos is competing in the European League this season.
