FilGoal | News | El-Shennawy: After winning the Super, it’s time to celebrate the award for the best in Africa

Mohamed El-Shennawy, Al-Ahly’s goalkeeper and leader, sent a message to the fans after winning the Super, indicating that it was time to celebrate the award for the best in Africa.

Al-Ahly won the Egyptian Super title at the expense of Zamalek with two goals without a response, scored by Bruno Savio and Karim Fouad.

Al-Shennawi said, through his personal account on the social networking site Instagram: “Congratulations to Al-Ahly and its great fans in the Super Cup.”

“Thank you to the players, the club’s management, and towards more tournaments in the future,” he added.

He concluded, “It is time to celebrate a title that I postponed celebrating, and he is the best player in Africa.”

Mohamed El-Shennawy won the award for the best player in Africa, presented by (CAF).

El-Shennawy outperformed the duo: Ashraf Dari, defender of Wydad and the Moroccan national team, and Alio Diang, midfielder of Al-Ahly and the Mali national team.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper reached the 2021 African Nations Cup final with Egypt, as well as the African Champions League final with Al-Ahly, but lost the final match, and also won the bronze medal in the FIFA Club World Cup 2022.

Khaled Murtaji, Al-Ahly’s treasurer, received the award instead of the goalkeeper of the team and the Egyptian national team, who was then facing Zamalek in the 2021 Egypt Cup final at the same time of the ceremony.

El-Shennawy last season participated in 31 matches, conceded 31 goals and kept 10 clean sheets.

El-Shennawy became the second goalkeeper to win the award after Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango and Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.

Al-Ahly players also won the award for the seventh time, and Al-Shennawi became the fourth after Mohamed Barakat, Ahmed Hassan and Mohamed Abu Trika, who had won the award 4 times.
