Italy defeated its guest England 1-0 in the match that brought them together in the fifth round of Group C of the first classification in the European Nations League.
Giacomo Raspadori scored the game’s only goal in the 68th minute, with a superb shot on the edge of the area with the right foot, which came to the left of English goalkeeper Nick Pope.
The Azzurri almost added the second in the 85th minute with a shot from Manolo Gabbiadini, which was blocked by Bob, before Federico De Marco continued the attempt later with a shot that bounced off the post.
In the same group, Hungary defeated its host Germany, 1-0.
Adam Salai scored the goal in a wonderful way with the heel, after a cross from Dominic Soboslay in the 18th minute.
Germany equalized through Timo Werner in the 53rd minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
The win raised Hungary’s tally to 10 points at the top of the group, followed by Italy with 8 points.
Germany officially left the race with 6 points, in the group that the English are bottom with only two points.
Only the group leaders qualify for the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.
Thus, the identity of the qualifier will be decided on the twenty-sixth of September, when the Italian team is a guest of Hungary, and the teams of England and Germany will play a match on the same day that will not affect the course of the competition.
Italy needs to win by any result, while a draw is enough for Hungary to qualify.
