German coach Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool coach, mocked the owner of Chelsea after the latter’s proposal to make an “all star” match in America.
“I hope the English Premier League will learn a lesson from American sports,” Todd Boley told a news conference in America.
“Why don’t we have a tournament with the last four teams? Why isn’t there an All-Star game?”
“You can play a north-south match in the Premier League and it will help finance very easily. Everyone loves the idea of increasing the league’s revenue.”
Jurgen Klopp responded to the Chelsea owner’s comments in the press conference after the Ajax match, saying: “He didn’t wait long! When he finds an appointment he can call me.”
“He forgot that in the big sports in America these players get four months of breaks and they are very happy because they can do a little bit of sport in those breaks. It’s completely different in football.”
“What can I say? Does he want to bring in the Harlem Globetrotters as well and let them play against a football team?”
“I’m surprised by the question so please don’t judge my answers too much. Maybe he can explain it to me at some point and find the right date.”
“I’m not sure people want to see that. Imagine that the United players, the Liverpool players and the Everton players are all in one team, Arsenal and Tottenham together.”
It is noteworthy that Liverpool achieved its first three points in the Champions League by beating Ajax with two goals to one in the second round of the group stage.
