Marco Asensio did not close the door to the idea of moving from Real Madrid to Barcelona.
Asensio joined the Spain squad during the current international break.
Asensio’s contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season.
Asensio answered the question of the possibility of moving to Barcelona, saying: “I did not think about it or appreciate it.”
And Mundo Deportivo newspaper revealed this week that Barcelona is considering the inclusion of Asensio in a free transfer deal.
“Barcelona continues? In fact, I don’t know. There have also been reports from other clubs,” Asensio said in comments reported by Sport.
“As of next January, I am a free player, and other clubs will certainly come out,” he stressed.
“This morning I received 200 messages from friends of mine asking if I could sign with Barcelona,” Asensio revealed.
Marco Asensio concluded his statements, “At the moment I cannot give an answer about moving to Barcelona.”
Asensio was threatened with leaving last summer’s market amid interest from Milan, Arsenal and Newcastle United, but nothing happened.
Despite the failure of the contract with Kylian Mbappe, and the injury of Karim Benzema, Asensio is still low in attack options behind Vinicius Junior, Rodrigo Gos and Federico Valverde.
And if his contractual status with Real Madrid does not change, the January transfer market will be the only chance for Real Madrid to obtain a financial return from his departure, otherwise he will sign for free to any team and move to him at the beginning of the next season.
Asensio participated as a substitute in only two matches this season, 7 minutes in the Spanish League, and 10 minutes in the Champions League.
