META announces the release of the next generation Quest headphones in 2023

The $1,500 Meta Quest pro may have gone on sale, but the company has already started rolling out the next version in its line of cheaper VR headsets. During the company’s latest earnings call, outgoing chief financial officer Dave Whener said the “next generation of consumer headphones” will be launched “later next year”.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also referred to the “next generation of Quest headphones for consumers.” He didn’t mention the name of the device, but it certainly looks like he was referring to the Meta Quest 3. It’s not clear exactly when it might be launched, but in the past the company has provided New headphones for the fall to coincide with the annual Connect event. .

This isn’t the first time Zuckerberg has mentioned Quest 3. Analyst Ben Thompson told earlier this month that Quest 3 was in the pipeline, and that it would likely fall in the $300-$500 price range, which should make him more consistent. With the previous Quest headphones – the Quest 2 started at $299 – instead of the latest Quest Pro, Engadget reports.

While the Quest 3 may be more of a budget device than the Quest Pro, there are signs the Meta may incorporate some elements of a high-end VR headset.

As UploadVR noted, Zuckerberg said face and eye tracking will be a “huge focus,” and at least one early rumor suggests that the Quest 3 could have “pancake lenses” similar to the Quest Pro.
