The Minister of Petroleum meets with the delegation of the Oil and Gas Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce


Engineer Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a meeting with the delegation of the Oil and Gas Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo to coordinate efforts to prepare for the participation of the oil and gas sector in the Carbon Emission Reduction Day, which will be organized at the Cop27 Global Climate Summit, which Egypt will host in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.

The meeting was attended by Silvia Menassa, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, heads and representatives of American companies operating in Egypt, including Bechtel, Honeywell, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Apache, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Taqa Arabia, Undersecretaries of the Ministry of Petroleum for projects and the technical office, and the Vice President of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company for Green Energy.

Eng. Tarek El-Molla stressed that Egypt is the first country to provide an opportunity for the oil and gas industry and its international companies at the Climate Summit to present their actual plans for environmental improvement and reducing emissions from the activities of this industry using the latest technologies, adding that the conference is a great opportunity to confirm that there are actual efforts being made. On the ground of oil and gas companies to keep pace with global trends to achieve environmental sustainability, reduce carbon emissions and preserve the environment, and that the oil and gas industry invests in the application of modern technologies that achieve this goal and reflect its commitment to environmental responsibility, which is an important message for its sincere endeavors in this regard.

He explained that international companies operating in Egypt are working in cooperation with the petroleum sector on many initiatives and projects aimed at reducing emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, and that participation in the Climate Summit is a window to present these initiatives to the world.

The minister pointed to the importance of Egypt’s participation in the global methane pledge initiative to reduce methane emissions, which President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced last June, noting that it will be among the topics discussed on the day of reducing carbon emissions during the conference.

During the meeting, the developments of cooperation between the petroleum sector and American companies in implementing initiatives and projects to reduce carbon emissions at work sites were reviewed. Al-Mulla stressed the importance of the current cooperation and coordination to contribute to providing financing, technologies and training of cadres to implement these projects.

The heads and representatives of the companies presented their visions to present these efforts and projects during the conference, and it was agreed to form work teams from both sides and quickly hold executive meetings to approve the topics and areas that will be presented.

Al-Mulla praised the constructive cooperation between the petroleum sector and various US companies and institutions working in the oil and gas field.
