The Ministers of Tourism and Communications follow up on developments in the implementation of digital transformation projects


The completion of the work of raising the efficiency of internet speeds in full for 47 hotel facilities in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, and the completion of the readiness of the remaining 53 hotel facilities during the next two weeks in preparation for the “COP27” conference.

Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, held a meeting, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Zamalek, to follow up on the executive position of the latest developments in work related to the implementation of digital transformation projects that come within the framework of the joint cooperation protocol signed between the two ministries in November 2020, regarding Developing the technological infrastructure of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, which includes projects to automate tourism services, a geographic systems management system, and link and cover archaeological sites and museums with an Internet service.

At the beginning of his speech during the meeting; Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, welcomed Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and the attendees. He also expressed his appreciation for the fruitful and continuous cooperation between the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, and Communications and Information Technology, stressing the continuation of this cooperation. During the meeting; Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and the achievements made in the framework of cooperation between the Ministries of Communications and Information Technology, and Tourism and Antiquities during the past years, pointing to the periodic meetings that were held between the two ministries. To discuss the axes of this cooperation and to ascertain what has been achieved in all these files, expressing his confidence in the continuation of this cooperation to accomplish the remaining work, and to create new axes of cooperation between the two ministries.

The meeting dealt with the executive position of the work developments related to raising the efficiency of Internet speeds in hotel facilities in Sharm El-Sheikh, in preparation for hosting the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change “COP 27” next November; It was noted that the work of raising the efficiency of the entire Internet speeds for 47 hotel establishments has been completed, and the remaining 53 hotel establishments are scheduled to be ready within the next two weeks.

It was stressed the need for hotel establishments in Sharm El-Sheikh to raise the efficiency of their Internet service speeds, which are specified according to their classification, while adhering to the specified timings.

The executive position of the first phase of the project to raise the efficiency of Internet speeds in the rest of the governorates at the level of the Republic, which includes hotel establishments in the governorates of Cairo and Giza, four and five-star categories, has been completed, where 46 hotel facilities have been completed, and it is scheduled to start in the second phase, which includes my cities. Hurghada and Marsa Alam in the Red Sea Governorate and the governorates of Luxor, Aswan, Alexandria and the rest of the hotel establishments in South Sinai Governorate, four and five star categories, as of the first of next October. This phase includes more than 340 hotel establishments.

The meeting also touched on the executive position of the rest of the projects related to digital transformation in light of the cooperation protocol between the two ministries, including the project to develop the official service portal of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, which the ministry launched last August in its experimental version, the project to implement historical palaces, and the project to develop services for mission requests. archaeological work, mechanization of the work cycle, digitization of documents and archiving of all papers and files in circulation at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, where the first phase of electronic archiving of nearly 14 million papers for the ministry has been completed within the framework of the move to the new administrative capital. This is in addition to reviewing what has been accomplished in the project of mechanizing tourism services; As 55 services of hotel establishments and tourism companies have been automated, they have been launched on the official service portal of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is scheduled to organize a workshop in cooperation with the Chamber of Hotel Establishments, in which representatives of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority) will participate, in the presence of representatives of telecommunications companies, representatives and managers of hotel establishments in Sharm El-Sheikh; With the aim of developing final solutions to the challenges faced by these parties and finalizing them according to the specified times.

The two sides also agreed to issue commemorative postage stamps to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the deciphering of ancient Egyptian writing and the emergence of Egyptology and the 100th anniversary of the discovery and promotion of King Tutankhamun’s tomb, in addition to promoting the Egyptian Post Museum in Ataba Square in Cairo, which was inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. After its development last July, the museum includes many treasures and rare collectibles that highlight the development of post offices and services through the ages; Where the latest technological techniques have been applied to develop the means of displaying the museum’s holdings and displaying them in a civilized manner that reflects the nobility of the Egyptian Post Corporation and mixes between originality and modernity.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities had gifted the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology an antique vehicle for transporting postal materials, model of 1870, which was among the collections of the Royal Vehicles Museum to join the holdings of the Egyptian Post Museum on loan.
