Cairo – Masrawy:

Representative Amr Darwish, a member of the House of Representatives for the Coordination of Youth of Parties and Politicians, said that “Alaa Abdel Fattah’s family is seeking the help of countries abroad in order to pressure the Egyptian government, which is unacceptable interference in internal affairs and will not be allowed in any way.” This is in response to the statements of Sanaa Abdel-Fattah, sister of activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah, during her conference organized by the “DCJ” group, active in the field of climate justice, on the sidelines of the Climate Summit, today, Tuesday.

Darwish, who asked to speak during the press conference that included a number of foreign correspondents, speaking in Arabic, added that “Alaa Abdel-Fattah is not accused of political issues, but faces criminal charges punishable by Egyptian law, not as is promoted by his family.”

Sana tried to intervene by translating Darwish’s speech into English, but he refused, before being asked to direct his question, causing the conference to witness a state of tension.

As a result, one of the organizers indicated that Darwish should be removed from the hall, so that United Nations security personnel intervened and asked him to leave the hall.

In a video he posted on his Facebook account, commenting on the incident, Darwish said: “It is not right for us to summon external forces against Egypt, especially as there are fraudulent talk,” noting that Alaa Abdel-Fattah is a criminal imprisoned after he committed criminal crimes.

He added, “What I was surprised by at the conference was the very strange treatment of the United Nations and the organizers of the press conference, which contradicts the freedom of opinion and expression.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed that activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah did not meet the conditions for granting him foreign citizenship, after reports that he had obtained British citizenship.

In an interview with CNBC, Shoukry said that Egyptian law has a specific process for recognizing foreign nationalities that Alaa Abdel Fattah has not yet fulfilled, and he is still an Egyptian citizen.

He added that the Egyptian authorities provide health care to all prisoners.
